WHY THE AMERICAN SILVER EAGLE COIN IS SO COLLECTIBLE
A Special Guest Post from “Infinite” on American Silver Eagles
A lot of things are going on in the investment world, and some are quite interesting. If you’ve been paying a little attention, I bet you’d probably have noticed that too especially in the silver coin market. You see, investing in silver coins is profitable especially when the dollar loses its value in the market. Having observed the coin market for some time now, I figured out that there seems to be more demand for a particular coin than the others. A lot of the investors in the coin market would probably agree to this. There is more demand and buy back for the American Silver Eagle coin than the others.
When I figured this out, a lot of questions were running through my mind which I summarized into this one simple question; Why is the American Silver Eagle so collectible? To answer that question, I had to make a few research on this precious coin.
Brief history of the American Silver Eagle
The American Silver Eagle coin was released on November 24, 1986, by the United States Mint. It is the official Silver Bullion Coin of the United States. Its weight, content, and purity are certified by the U S Mint. It is produced in three versions; the bullion, proof and uncirculated version.
The face value of the American Silver Eagle coin is $1.00. It contains 1 ounce of pure silver. The obverse is covered with the famous Walking Liberty design made by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916, and the reverse side carries the heraldic eagle with a shield and thirteen five-pointed stars made by John Mercanti in 1986. Since its release, the American Silver Eagle coin has had a mintage of over 462,795,503 between 1986 and 2016.
Why is the American Silver Eagle so collectible?
The American Eagle Silver Bullion coin is authorized by Title II of the Liberty Coin Act of 1985, which mandates that it has a nominal face value of $1.00 and contains one troy ounce of 99.9 percent pure silver. It’s the only silver bullion coin in existence whose weight, content and purity are guaranteed by the U.S. Government and certified by the U.S. Mint.
This precious silver coin is considered investment-grade silver bullion coins and is the only official investment-grade silver coins in the United States. Thus, this coin can be used to fund Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs). Major investment markets around the globe also accept them. Additionally, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) exempts the American Eagle Silver Bullion coins from IRS 1099 reporting, which provides the investors with an added level of privacy.
Also, the American Eagle Silver Bullion coin is considered a legal tender and has a face value of $1.00. This value is very symbolic and they it’s traded based on the market rate for silver, plus a small premium. Its actual silver market value is much higher than the $1.00 face value.
The American Silver Eagles can easily be melted down if you want to sell the silver. They can be added to other silver to make silver bars. They can also be used as they are to buy what you need in the event of an economic emergency. This makes them a very liquid investment that can be kept, spent or melted, depending on exactly what you need your silver for.
